ancing in the sunrise. Salou is a beach village near Tarragona. Hundred years ago Salou was a small fisherman’s village. At that time people from Reus went there to enjoy the beach. Later they built summer houses, chalets, there. A few modernista chalets still exists near the harbor. Nowadays it is very touristic but there are still a few nice places to go to. Going northeast along the coast you find some little hills ending as cliffs in the sea. From the cliffs you can watch the sunrise.

round Christmas I went back to Barcelona from Salou. Because it was too cold in the house, no heating. When standing in the train, I saw a very beautiful girl and I made, from a distance, a picture of her. Because of bad lightning and a moving train the picture was blurred. But as an impression good enough. The next day I returned to Salou to make this painting. A few days later I went back to The Netherlands. “Xica en el tren” means “Girl in the train”.

long time ago I made a pencil drawing of a girl. Last year, when looking in my old sketchbook, I discovered the drawing again. I decided to make a painting of it. This work was made in Salou. “Xica a la platja” is some Catalan language (of mine), meaning “Girl at the beach”.

his work symbolises the house and garden in Salou. I lived in the house for a few weeks. I did some renovation work on the house and made some paintings. The title, “el mar y más” means “the sea and more”. This work is made out of 2 canvases, screwed together. Again, I had Van Gogh in mind. More works of Vincent van Gogh can be seen online or live in the Van Gogh museum. Very nice site.
